Nursery school in Michałowice
The building has been planned as a compact block with a structure that minimises circulation spaces and allows a small building footprint. A multi-pitched roof follows the repetitive structure of the structural cores. The unusual roofscape, allows for generous dimensions of the halls with increased heights.
The main body of the building is completed by the roof planes, added at the front as well as the garden-facing facades. The lightweight, perforated structure, partially covers the entrance area and its accompanying functions, and the roof from the side of the garden side protects the interiors from excessive penetration of the sun's rays in summer. All canopies above the ground floor were supplemented with greenery to improve water retention and regulate the microclimate around the building.
The starting point for the structure of the building was the competition guideline, concerning the direct exit to the garden from all lecture rooms. According to that, all the halls have been located on the ground floor, distributed on two sides of the central main hall. The other functions - a block of general halls (traffic, leisure and entertainment and world experience), administration block and dining block with kitchen facilities - are located on floor +1. The basement was reduced to the necessary minimum in the central part of the building.
The ground floor of the building has been shaped as a composition of solid cores and glazed openings. Solid elements are finished with ceramic tiles, which also appear in the interior. The colors of the ceramics, arranged in a gradient running along the entire facade, form the color code of the halls, visible on the facade from the garden side and in the corridor from the front side.
