Art studio of Paweł Althamer

According to the investor's plan, his artistic studio has been attached to his father's existing industrial hall and supplemented with his brother's warehouse. In this way, an unusal set of spaces was created, in which two family generations will work - combining elements of making and everyday life.

The development fills practically the entire surface of the plot and divides it into internal and external spaces serving different users. In addition to the clear division into functions, a common central outdoor space has been created as an added value, allowing all users to work and meet depending on the needs and weather conditions.

In the studio, the artist works not only individually or with a team of helpers, but also invites groups to joint creative activities. Thus, the gradation of privacy zones is very important: a common courtyard, intended for group work on the ground floors, a mezzanine for meetings for several people and a completely private, hidden and quiet niche accessible from the mezzanine. The latter is in a plastically deformed gold object suspended on the exterior wall of the building, above the entrance to the common central square. In this way, as a response to the nature of the artist's work, a kind of spatial loop is created, in which the external form of the most intimate space is at the same time the closure of the most public space.
