Student housing of the University of Warsaw
It is an attractive, “tailor-made” living and working environment, responding to the needs of modern students. Thanks to the well-thought-out organization of space, it fosters creation of ties in the academic community.
Modern academic space
Student House No. 7 of the University of Warsaw is a modern, functional and modest in form, but carefully designed building, designed for 382 residents. The building houses 138 residential units, including 16 fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The project was selected through an architectural competition, preceded by a broad functional analysis, taking into account the needs of future users.
A space designed with the community in mind
The building was designed on the plan of a windmill, which made it possible to avoid long, monotonous traffic routes. Instead, a typology based on small neighbourhood groups of several people, arranged in four wings, was introduced. Their focal point is a multi-level atrium, around which integration and relaxation areas and shared kitchens are planned. Such a layout ensures short and clear corridors, facilitates orientation in space and promotes the building of neighbourly relations. An additional advantage is optimal lighting of interiors with natural light and views of the surrounding greenery from each window.
Functionality and community
The surroundings of the dormitory were planned as a set of thematic courtyards, distributed between the wings of the building. There are, among others: a sports square with a pavilion for bicycles, a mini amphitheater with seats on the descent ramp to the garage and a green recreation area, drawing from the shade of old, stately trees. The building promotes the integration of residents thanks to carefully planned common spaces. Students have at their disposal a common room, a sports room, a laundry room, rooms for individual and group studies and spacious, two-level kitchens and dining rooms.
