The competition asked for a development plan of a social housing complex, located on the WUWA site in Wroclaw.

This proposal includes two units – a three-storey senior housing unit and a six-storey unit with rental apartments and a kindergarten, suited for students and young families.

Senior apartment building is located close to the main street so that its residents can easily and actively participate in community life. Corridor style hall serves also as an atrium, which links and integrates all the residential floors. In front of each apartment door there is a designated sitting area, a small storage unit and a flowerpot. These help the residents with orientation and make the space feel less anonymous. Lounge areas were designed in the south part of each floor. Extra recreational space is provided on the rooftop, a part of which can be used as an herb and vegetable garden.

A wavy ‘green carpet’ of the multifunctional atrium is laid out between the simple blocks of the housing complex. It contains a few recreational areas for the residents, visually divided by the elevated parts that roof the underground parking space.

The main idea was to provide space that helps build relations between residents without losing its private character.

While the facades of both buildings are modular and simple, different brickwork and window framing sets them apart.
