ZAJECZA 9 ROOFTOP EXTENSION, WARSAW

Extended apartment building at Zajęcza 9 is located in Powiśle , between Dobra and Topiel streets. It is adjacent to a prewar apartment building on the west side, and to higher, pre-war townhouses – Zajęcza 11 and Dobra  31 –on the east side.

Designed rooftop extension will even out the varying heights of neighbor town houses, creating a consistent frontage.

Composition of three glazings on the front elevation resembles the rhythm of the existing façade. As recommended by the restorer, two cornices are introduced to continue the lines of Zajęcza 7 building.

Expanded metal mesh provides  a semi-transparent façade finish. Window frames and cornices were made out of coated aluminum sheets. Used color palette consists of neutral aluminum tones and metallic grey shades.

The rooftop extension features five apartments varying in size, with three of them being two-storey.

The layout of the extension was designed to create extraordinary spaces in each apartment. The front tract features living spaces of doubled height and extra natural lighting. Panoramic sliding windows were used in the back tract.

As a part of the venture, the facade, gates and staircases will all undergo a renovation.
